If your child loves cats, cat-themed activities can be such a fun and easy way to keep them engaged. Our kids absolutely adore our Scottish Fold cat, Fujin, and very often, when it is time to choose an activity, they pick something with cats.
If your child is a cat lover too, we wanted to share a few simple ideas that work well for younger kids in preschool through early elementary. We are also putting together our own printable cat activity pack featuring Fujin, which makes it easy to bring a little extra fun into the day.
Printable Cat Activities for Preschool and Early Elementary
One of the easiest ways to set up a fun activity for young kids is with simple printable pages. They are great for quiet time, rainy afternoons, homeschool breaks, or just a calm activity at the table.
Our printable cat activity pack includes:
coloring page
trace the cat
finish the cat’s picture
draw your cat
cat mazes
spot the difference
pattern activity
Hands-On Cat Activities for Young Kids
Beyond printables, there are plenty of cat-themed activities that let children use their imagination. These kinds of hands-on ideas can be especially fun for kids ages 4 to 7 because they mix pretend play, drawing, and creating.
You can help your child:
create a pet obstacle course
make a cat bed out of blankets, pillows, etc.
make a pretend cat café
make a simple reward chart for helping with pet care
create a cat birthday card
decorate a name tag for their cat
Cat Observation Activities for Kids
Observation activities can be especially sweet because they help children slow down and really notice their pet. They also create simple moments for conversation and connection.
You can sit with your child and ask questions like:
What is your cat’s favorite sleeping spot?
What do you think makes your cat happy?
What sounds does your cat react to?
How does your cat ask for food?
What toys does your cat like best?
What is your cat’s favorite hiding place?
What is your favorite memory with your cat?
What do you love about your cat?
Cat Activities for Kids Without a Cat at Home
You do not need to have a cat at home for a child to enjoy cat-themed activities. Some kids simply love cats, and that is enough to make these ideas fun.
For children who love cats but do not have one in the house, try questions like:
What is your dream cat?
Describe your perfect cat room.
You could also invite them to draw their dream cat, create a pretend cat playroom, or imagine what kinds of toys and treats their dream cat would love.

Why Cat Activities Are So Fun for Little Kids
Cat-themed activities work so well for young kids because they combine something children already love with simple ways to play, imagine, and learn. Whether they are coloring a cat, planning a pretend cat café, answering questions about their pet, or working through a maze book, they are practicing important skills while doing something that feels fun and familiar.
In our house, anything featuring Fujin usually gets immediate attention.
